Of course, if you want to benefit from the articles that you publish, you will first have to get them approved by the article directories. And Ezinearticles, as we all know, have very strict quality guidelines. So let’s take the opportunity to discuss some common mistakes that many marketers make.

Mistake 1: Including the location in the article title.

Ezinearticles does accept articles with locations in them, but that happens very rarely. The reason is that they want very precise information to be included in the articles. Locations refer to any names of countries, cities, states, etc. So if you want quick approval, just remove the location from the title. You can include the names in the article body or the author resource box.

Mistake 2: Self promotional article.

This is a commonly known quality guidelines, but many people still send us article writing requests to promote their Company, Website, etc. Of course, if client insists, we will oblige. But the price to pay is to be excluded from Ezinearticles. That is not the end of the world as EZA is only ONE article directory. Often, the article will still end up ranking well in other directories such as Searchwarp or American Chronicle. But if EZA is important to you, then please do not send requests asking us to write about your Company. A high quality article that offers great tips will help build goodwill and trust and will often lead to sign ups and sales.

Mistake 3: Linking to a website with excessive promotion.

This has nothing to do with the quality of the article. It has everything to do with the quality of the website that you are linking to. From experience, Ezinearticles have rejected articles that link to sites that contain nothing but affiliate links, banner ads, and pop-up ads. They also reject articles from dubious sites that promote illegal products.

Mistake 4: Choosing an article title that is too general.

Over 90% of the page views generated in our EZA account comes from articles with SPECIFIC titles. The article body is also highly relevant to the article title. We sometimes get requests to use titles with just two to three keywords in them. In most cases, those titles are just too general and the articles do not rank well in the search engines.

Mistake 5: Not linking to internal pages.

Many clients link to the homepage of their sites. Sure, you will still receive page views and clicks from your articles but they land on a page that isn’t highly relevant to the content they are reading. This is especially important if you are hoping to get sales from an Ecommerce shopping site. You want web visitors to land on specific internal pages. For instance, if your article is about home cleaning, then link to a page that sells cleaning agents. There is a much higher chance of acquiring customers.

Mistake 6: Not building trust and credibility.

Listen, people are not going to buy from you if they don’t trust you. It’s as simple as that. So your articles should always strive to build trust and goodwill FIRST. That means you should write about specific problems and then give away some really good tips. I see some clients publish free PDF reports on their own sites. They are trying to establish trust and credibility with their customers, and that is the right thing to do. In article marketing, it’s not all that different. Don’t just go for mass articles and mass links. Go for quality as well.

Mistake 7: Not focusing on one’s own brand and niche.

These are marketers who try to write about some popular brand and then at the end of the article, they link to a lesser known brand. Very tricky. But Ezinearticles have made their stand clear – they don’t appreciate such articles. So they are likely to reject such shady tactics. Focus on your own niche and brand when creating content.

Mistake 8: Giving away too much.

Just a few paragraphs above I told you to give away quality information. Then right away, here I am telling you not to give too much away. Contradicting isn’t it? Well, the trick is to have the right balance. Too little information and the visitor leaves without taking away much. Too much information and they have little need to click on your links and visit your website. So how much is the right balance? From our experience, just 2 to 3 really good tips in a single article is good enough. Then encourage readers to visit your site for the rest of the solution. That always work like a charm. This may be difficult to get right if you are just starting out but after 10 to 20 articles, you will start to get a better feel of where to draw the line.

Mistake 9: Check that URLs are entered correctly!

This is a newbie mistake but some clients still commit this mistake and it’s a costly mistake that deserves repeating! If you give us the wrong URL, there is no way that we know that it’s incorrect if the URL loads properly. We do conduct checks on URLs before approving articles but we cannot detect typos. So please double check the URLs to ensure that you don’t end up promoting your competitors’ sites!

Mistake 10: Stop publishing articles after submitting 5 to 6 articles.

Let me ask you a question. How do you think we managed to accummulate over half a million page views for our client sites? Here is the simple answer: CONSISTENT EFFORT! Over time, the views just pile up and it can only continue to go up. And who is going to benefit from those page views? That’s right, those who submit and publish articles regularly are going to reap all the rewards.

In fact, after reviewing the stats, over 70% of the page views belong to my top 10% clients. These are clients who have bought packages with us and then roll out articles on a daily basis.
